Everyday white bread

A straightforward homemade loaf with a golden crust. Makes one loaf. Allow about 2 hours for rising.

  1. Combine flour, salt and yeast. Add oil and water; mix to a soft dough, then knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  2. Cover in an oiled bowl and let rise for about 1 hour, until doubled. Deflate gently, shape into a round loaf and place on a lined tray. Cover and rise again for about 1 hour.
  3. Dust with flour and slash the top. Bake at 220°C (200°C fan) for 25–30 minutes, until golden and hollow-sounding underneath. Cool on a rack.
